California eFiling is the process of electronically submitting court documents to a California Superior Court through a court-approved Electronic Filing Service Provider (EFSP). Legal Document Server supports eFiling in 46 California Superior Courts, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Orange County, Santa Clara, and Sacramento. Each court sets its own local rules for accepted case types and document formats.
eFiling through Legal Document Server starts at $13.95 per transaction. This EFSP service fee covers document submission, filing confirmation, and court-stamped copies returned electronically. Courts may also charge their own statutory filing fees, which vary by case type and county. Visit our pricing page for a complete breakdown of eFiling, physical filing, and concierge filing rates.
Most civil litigation documents can be eFiled in California, including complaints, answers, motions, declarations, discovery documents, and stipulations. Accepted document types vary by court and case category — many courts accept civil unlimited, civil limited, family law, probate, and small claims filings. Documents must be submitted in PDF format and comply with California Rules of Court formatting requirements.
eFiling turnaround times depend on the receiving court’s clerk review queue. Most California Superior Courts process eFiled documents within 24 to 48 business hours, though some high-volume courts like Los Angeles may take longer during peak periods. In certain jurisdictions — notably San Bernardino and Riverside — processing times can extend to one to two weeks depending on the court’s backlog. Legal Document Server provides real-time filing status updates and immediate confirmation when your filing is accepted or rejected by the court clerk.
eFiling is the electronic submission of documents to the court for official filing with the clerk, while e-Service is the electronic delivery of documents to opposing counsel or other parties in a case. California Code of Civil Procedure Section 1010.6 governs both processes. Legal Document Server offers both eFiling and e-Service through a single platform, allowing attorneys to file with the court and serve opposing parties simultaneously.
If you eFile documents yourself and the filing is rejected by the court, you will need to correct the issue and resubmit as a new order. If your filing was submitted through our Concierge Filing service and the rejection was caused by a Concierge error — such as selecting the wrong document code or making a system-related mistake — Legal Document Server will resubmit the filing at no additional charge. However, if a Concierge filing is rejected due to issues with the contents of the document itself, a new order and fee will be required for resubmission. Common rejection reasons include non-compliant document formatting, missing required attachments, or selecting the wrong case category.
To begin eFiling with Legal Document Server, create an account on our platform, select your target court and case type, upload your documents in PDF format, and submit your filing. Documents must be text searchable — if your PDF is not text searchable, Legal Document Server can assist with converting it. For law firms needing hands-off filing support, our Concierge Filing service (starting at $50) handles the entire submission process on your behalf.
E-mail us your documents to co*******@*****************er.com and we will review, format, and place your orders on your account.
